What is a Community Responder?

A Community Responder

Responds to individuals in need of immediate support with difficult or crisis situations utilizing trauma-informed and person-centered practices.

  • Provides on-the-ground emotional support, de-escalation, conflict resolution, collaborative problem solving, and referrals for community members.

  • Addresses immediate concerns and identifies underlying needs.

  • Provides individualized support in coordinating care with other disciplines internally and externally, to link individuals with other care providers for ongoing support.

  • Provides relationship based case management. 

  • Provides collaborative problem solving for ongoing or novel situations.


What experience do I need? 

Our Community Responder Team

We hope our Community Responder Team will have members with a wide variety of educational, work, and lived experience. Those with with non-traditional work/educational experiences are encouraged to apply.

Required

  • High school degree or GED required.

  • One or more years of demonstrated experience in crisis or peer support practices, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

    Preferred

  • Knowledge and direct experience of local mental health resources, including clinical and non-clinical resources, systems of care for complex and co-occurring conditions, substance use, peer support and harm reduction, houselessness and or other services.

    1. Bilingual English/Spanish

    2. Class D Driver’s License  


Is training provided?

We will be providing over 150 hours of training for our Community Responders

These trainings will include but are not limited to the following topics:

  • Emergency Medical Response

  • De-escalation

  • Collaborative Problem Solving

  • Racial Equity and Inclusion

  • Harm Reduction

  • Human Rights

  • Crisis Response
